Ratings and Statistics Help

NEW: If everyone leaves…

If everyone leaves a rated game right away, NO ONE will get an incomplete.

When do penalties for incompletes start?

As soon as everyone hits “I’m Ready”, the game starts and penalties will take effect.

NEW: Can I sit at the same table as someone else in my house?

NO. If you try to sit at the same table as someone else in your house in Rated, you will be asked to not do that again and the incident will be reported to GamingPeak Administration. If we detect other attempts to play disrespectfully, you risk losing your rated room access or score.

NEW: You can set a minimum rating for your table.

To set a minimum rating (e.g. 1500 and up, 1700+…), include the minimum rating in your ad. For example:

Reg NDN - 1500 and up
Reg - 1600+
Whiz 1800 or higher

That will only allow players who have at least that rating to sit at your table. If you want any rating to be able to sit, just remove the rating number from your table ad and re-send the ad.

Please use this responsibly. Don’t set your filter too high, otherwise you won’t find any players and Server@GP might think that you’re flooding.

How do ratings work?

When you play a game in a “rated” room at GamingPeak, your rating will increase or decrease based upon the outcome of your games and the ratings of your fellow players. Ratings are designed to provide an estimate of your skill level relative to other players.

GamingPeak uses the worldwide standard Elo rating system to calculate ratings. New players start with a rating of 1500.

Dealing with table disruptions by a stalker or chatty/uninvited kibbers

As you know, the host’s ability to lock a table with a password in rated spades has been removed as a feature. In order to deal with table troublemakers that come to your table and you now can’t remove, an alternate solution instead of password locking them out is required. Here are some suggested and proven approaches:

1) Stalkers and overly chatty kibbers (or non-invited kibbers) can be silenced through the actions of each table player can take. If a stalker or kibber bothers you, you can personally silence them with your own tools at the table. Click the leftmost button on the GamingPeak GamePilot button to block kibbers from chatting. The chat of anyone kibbing you, is now blocked.

2) Blocking your cards is also an effective tools to stop a kibber or unwanted guest from seeing your cards in a rated game. This is a personal setting you can choose to turn on or off as you see fit, for your hands of play, or game.

If all the players playing at the table each follow these suggestions, it would be very effective to stop troublesome or uninvited table guests. Using both of these tools together effectively stops anyone at your table from bothering you with voice. Use both of these approaches FIRST before you ask for help from a volunteer.

As well, if you’ve used these table tools on someone, also make sure you use the Report Abuse on them to make sure we see that they’ve been disruptive at your table. We take abuse reports seriously, and we do remove chronic troublemakers from our rooms or even our site.

Are there any per-turn timers in Rated?

Yes, there is a 60-second turn timer always enabled in Rated games. If it’s your turn to play a card and you delay too long, GP will “autoplay” one of your cards. If it’s your turn to bid and you wait too long, you will be forced to “stand” from the table so that your partners can choose a sub if necessary. To rejoin the game after you have “stood”, you must click the open red/blue box in the game window.

TIP: If you need to leave the game for a moment, click “Stand” in the GamingPeak GamePilot bar. Your boot timer will start, but that will give you at least 2 minutes to handle any interruption.

What happens if someone leaves a rated game before it ends?

When a player leaves a rated game prematurely, the rated boot timer will start. The player who left has 4 minutes to return to the game. If the timer expires before the player returns, he or she will receive an incomplete and a loss. Returning to the game pauses your timer: If you get disconnected from the game once for 1 minute and return, and you disconnect again within the same game, you only have 3 minutes left to return.

You must wait for the timer to expire if you want the booted player to receive an incomplete. If you leave before the booted player’s timer expires, your boot timer will start and you will receive an incomplete, unless everyone has left the game.

Who receives a loss in an incomplete game?

If you receive an incomplete, you will also receive a loss if the following conditions are true:

  1. You have at least one incomplete already, and
  2. You were not winning by a large margin.

In other words, if this is your first incomplete, you will not receive a loss.

If you were not the player who disconnected, you will not receive a loss, and you might receive a win.

Who receives a win in in incomplete game?

You cannot receive a win if you receive an incomplete. Otherwise, if you or your team was winning by a large margin, you will receive a win.

In Spades, you are considered to be “winning by a large margin” if:

  1. Your score is 400 or more and you are ahead by at least 150 points, or
  2. Your score is 350 or more and you are ahead by at least 250 points.

If neither of those conditions are true, you will not receive a win.

If both players leave and the timer expires, they will BOTH get a loss.

What are Incompletes?

If you leave a rated game and don’t return to the table before your timer expires, you will receive an incomplete. Be careful — incompletes harm your record. Avoid incompletes by always finishing your games; an incomplete will only disappear after you’ve played 50 more games. Players don’t like to play with people who have many incompletes, because that indicates that the player probably quits games often.

We do not adjust incompletes or ratings.

Can I find subs when someone leaves?

Yes! In Spades, if your partner leaves the game early, you can find a sub. Only the booted player’s partner will be asked to provide a sub. Any sub who joins will NOT receive any rating for the game.

Even if you get a sub, the original player will STILL get an incomplete.

Can I reset my rating?

In a sense, yes: Summit Club Members can swap their rating with any other nickname they own. So you could swap your current name’s rating for a new name you created with a fresh rating. Visit your rating page (a link is on your Profile page) and click the “Swap” button below your rating information.

Note: A fresh nickname won’t have a rating page, but you can go to the other nickname’s page and swap from there.

In non-rated games, when do I receive a win/loss statistic?

All games count toward your statistics.
